Inspiration of the citylife

They were the photos I took in paris, which showed the wide images of the city. My project refers to the urban life, the pace of the citylife and the urban situation... When I looked at the photos, I was thinking about the buildings of a city. As we know that each big city has different city management planning, which must  be reflected their own citylife and the tempo of the city. That will be very different in different cities. I am going to do more researches related this orientation.

Artist Book Workshop - WHO CAN PLAY GAME WITH YOU?

They were the photos that I used in my artist book. In the workshop, I continued the silent film project, which related to my proposal. Here, I extended the video and changed it to the separated images. The image of the actions had a simple and powerful visual effect in the book. A interesting idea was that I still want to attract audience to participate the game.

In order to make it as an unending game, I did not do the cover of the book. You can circle the pages and continue playing.

Artist Book for research

Recently, we have an artist book workshop and I did a lot of researches related the visual effects of the different form. The following pictures show an interesting book which inspired me too much.

The book called noise map, as we see, there are a lot of signs and lines refer to the sound line and map graphics. In particular, it shows a great tempo from the front page to the end, there is a good link between each two pages. I am interested in the change of lines and the details of the layout.

In addition, this book could be a book of noise, could be a note book or a sketch book. And there have DVD which can be listen the different noise for different page with the tempo of context.

The content is horizontal, you can fill in the blanks.

LOST IN LIFE (SILENT FILM) - - WHO CAN PLAY GAME WITH YOU?

LOST IN LIFE (SILENT FILM) - - WHO CAN PLAY GAME WITH YOU?

Public screening,  78 Brixton Road London

This film focused on the lonesome, isolated and insensitive emotion of a girl who is eager for playing a close game with a friend. In my work, I used a hand game as an element to run my ideas. In fact, this is a traditional chinese game which should be played with two persons, but they were just one girl who played the game and repeated the same action by herself in my video and book. In addition, audience could play game with the girl, which is a participation and interaction between the work and the viewers.

Study Proposal

The urbanites’ real  emotion is the area which I want to research. In view of existing situation of modern people, I want to explore the idea of the mentality of urbanites, and pay attention to the strange, lonesome or vacuous emotions which are cased by the tremendous work pressure. That’s the general direction. As for the specific interested areas, there are some tentative ideas to consider, such as the numb attitude of office worker, the fast tempo of life style in London and so on. As a consequence, in the modern society, people ignore their real feeling and neglect what they really want to have from their inner heart. The missing emotion of urbanites is an interesting area which I want to carry on my project.

I think the theme of the project is relevant, because design should be concerned with social responsibility, which is the soul supporting a work. In my opinion, it’s less intensive and nothing remarkable if the work is created by a designer or artist who lacks social responsibility. We should broaden our horizons and see through the world. As a result, I think that researching urbanites’ emotion is a way to consider the modern people’s state of living, while it is also a viewpoint to concern the social phenomenon which has close relations to our life.

Oxford

moment

The nice moments alwasys give you a lot of inspirations, please press the shutter at that moment...

the work by AI WEIEI at Tate Modern

I saw this work at Tate Modern, as we know Ai Weiwei is a famous Chinese contemporary artist, active in sculpture, installation, architecture, curating, photography, film, and social, political and cultural criticism. As a political activist, he has been highly and openly critical of the Chinese Government's stance on democracy and human rights. When I saw the large sign "RELEASE AI WEIWEI" in the top of the building of Tate Modern, I fell so complex about our government. This is a democratic age and people need to have freedom of speech.
